BUSCO: Handing Over Ceremony
Theme: Faithful Stewardship and Smooth Transition
Text: 2 Timothy 2:2
Occasion: Handing Over Ceremony – KETABUSCO
Time: 8 minutes
1. INTRODUCTION (1 minute)
Handing over is not just an administrative exercise — it is a spiritual principle.
Every leadership position is a trust from God, the school, and the community.
Just like Paul handed over the Gospel work to Timothy, today’s handing over is a continuation of the relay race of service in this institution.
2. THE PRINCIPLE OF HANDING OVER (2 minutes)
From 2 Timothy 2:2, we see three principles:
1. Receiving Faithfully – The outgoing leaders first received knowledge, experience, and responsibilities from those before them.
2. Serving Faithfully – They were expected to execute their duties with diligence, integrity, and accountability.
3. Transferring Faithfully – Now they pass it on to others who can carry the baton further.
Illustration: In a 4x100m relay, the handover point is crucial — if the baton drops, the whole team suffers. Likewise, leadership transition must be smooth to avoid setbacks.
3. THE CHARACTER OF A GOOD LEADER (2 minutes)
Paul says, “Entrust to reliable people…” Reliable leaders must be:
Faithful – Doing what is right, even when no one is watching.
Competent – Equipped with skills to perform well.
Visionary – Seeing beyond the present challenges to future opportunities.
Servant-hearted – Leading not for personal gain but for the growth of the institution.
4. CHARGE TO THE OUTGOING LEADERS (1 minute)
Be thankful for the privilege to serve.
Leave with a good name — Proverbs 22:1 says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches.”
Offer your support, experience, and prayers to those taking over.
5. CHARGE TO THE INCOMING LEADERS (1½ minutes)
Accept the baton with humility and readiness.
Learn from past successes and avoid past mistakes.
Lead with vision, teamwork, and accountability.
Remember that leadership is service, not a throne — Mark 10:45 reminds us that “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve…”
6. CONCLUSION (½ minute)
This ceremony is not an end, but a continuation of a legacy.
May both outgoing and incoming leaders remember that we are stewards of the gifts, opportunities, and responsibilities God has entrusted to us.
Let us run the race, pass the baton, and keep the fire of excellence burning in KETABUSCO.
BENEDICTION PRAYER
“Lord, bless those who have served faithfully and those about to serve. Grant wisdom, unity, and a spirit of excellence to the new leadership. Let KETABUSCO continue to shine as a beacon of knowledge and character. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If you want, I can also prepare a short handover ceremony prayer and a special charge speech that you can give right after this sermon, so the program flows smoothly.
