Profile: Rev. Sylvanus Yao Kpodonu
Rev. Sylvanus Yao Kpodonu is an ordained Minister of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG). He currently serves as the Synod Clerk of the Southern Presbytery and Resident Pastor of the Tegbi Congregation. In addition to his ministerial duties, he is a Counselling Psychologist and Tutor of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) at Keta Business College (KETABUSCO), where he also serves as a member of the Chaplaincy Committee and the Counselling Committee (2024 to date).
Rev. Kpodonu has held several leadership and pastoral roles across the EPCG, marked by faith, diligence, and dedication. He served as District Pastor of Logba District (2005–2010), Pastor in charge of Wenniba Congregation (2010–2012), District Pastor of New Tafo-Akim (2012–2017), and Synod Clerk of the Eastern Presbytery (2014–2017). From 2017 to 2024, he served as District Pastor at Tanyigbe, where he also doubled as School Chaplain and Guidance and Counselling Coordinator at Tanyigbe Senior High School.
His educational journey demonstrates commitment to both spiritual and intellectual growth. Rev. Kpodonu began his early education at Akome Agate, later attending Akro Primary School, Odumase Krobo, Kade Methodist Middle School, and New Abirem L/A Middle School. He completed his secondary education at Mpreaso Secondary School (1988–1993) and Hohoe E.P. Secondary School (1994).
He then trained as a professional teacher at the E.P. Training College, Amedzofe (1995–1998) and later pursued theological studies at Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon (2002–2005). His passion for education and human development led him to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), where he obtained a Bachelor of Education in Guidance and Counselling (2010–2012) and later a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (2022–2023).
In addition to his pastoral and academic roles, Rev. Kpodonu has served as a teacher and counsellor in several institutions, including Nanumba District, Damanko (1998–2003), E.P. Basic School, Logba Tota (2005–2010), New Tafo-Akim Presbyterian JHS (2012–2017), Tanyigbe Senior High School (2017–2024), and Keta Business College (2024–present).
Rev. Kpodonu is known for his development-oriented leadership, commitment to prayer, love for teaching and counselling, and his compassionate nature. Beyond ministry, he enjoys farming and community engagement.
His life and ministry are inspired by Psalm 118:17 — “I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord.”
He lives by the personal motto: “If you do good, you do for yourself; if you do bad, you do for yourself.”
